Separate ancient Rome from the Vatican

The Colosseum and Roman Forum deserve their own block. The Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica work better as a separate day or a carefully paced morning.

Use churches and piazzas as rhythm

The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Trastevere can form a historic-center walk with food breaks and shade built in.

Respect heat and surfaces

Rome walking days are slower than maps suggest. Cobblestones, sun, security checks, and church dress rules all affect timing.
