Morning: ancient Rome

Open the day at the Colosseum and Roman Forum while it is cooler, then walk up to the Capitoline for views before the heat builds.

Midday: historic center

Drift through the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Navona with a long lunch. This is the walkable heart and rewards an unhurried pace.

Evening: Trastevere

Cross the river for dinner in Trastevere’s lanes. It is the right note to end on and keeps the evening relaxed rather than rushed.
